Drogba demanded he be left out of Montreal squad

The Canadian club maintain that a back injury ruled the Ivorian out of the derby against Toronto FC but Goal understands he was angry at his exclusion from the starting XI
Didier Drogba demanded that he be left out of the Montreal Impact's 18-man squad for Sunday's derby game with Toronto FC after learning he would not start the match, Goal understands

The Impact have claimed that Drogba’s exclusion was due to a minor back injury but a source has told Goal that Drogba has had a falling out with coach Mauro Biello after learning that he planned to start Matteo Mancosu instead of the Ivory Coast international

Earlier in the week, transfer rumours had linked Drogba with a potential loan move to Serie A during the MLS offseason.
Tosaint Ricketts scored a late goal to deny Montreal a victory that would have clinched their place in the playoffs. Ignacio Piatti scored both of the home side's goals in a 2-2 draw, with Jozy Altidore netting Toronto's first.

Guardiola sets Man City Champions League points target ahead of Barca showdown

The Catalan says his side's draw with Celtic last time out did them no favours and that they must come out of the back-to-back clashes with points to show for their efforts

Pep Guardiola says his Manchester City side will go to Barcelona to win as he sets them a target of taking six points from their remaining four Champions League group games.
Guardiola believes City's 3-3 draw with Celtic has complicated their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stage.
City play Barca at Camp Nou on Wednesday before a return clash at the Etihad Stadium two weeks later, two matches which will provide a much clearer idea of the Blues' task ahead of their final two games.
A failure to win either of the two Barcelona games would leave Guardiola's men with an uphill battle and he says they will try to take all three points at Camp Nou - and by playing their normal game.
Asked after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Everton if a point at Camp Nou would be a good result, he replied: “I don’t know. It depends on the game. If we play like today then it is not a good result. But if Barcelona play much better than us then maybe it is a good result.
“I never think about the next game thinking a draw will be a good result. A draw is complicated. Not winning in Glasgow means we have to take points against Barcelona either over there or here and especially in Germany [away to Borussia Monchengladbach] as well.
“We have four games left and we need to win two of them, make six points, to be in the next round. And we are going to try to win the first points in the [next] game, that is sure.”
He added: "Not too many teams win there in recent years. I will talk to the players about the way we will play that game.
“We are going to play like we are. I know the way we want to play but, of course, we have to know exactly against which team we’re going to play.”
City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, meanwhile, believes Guardiola could once again field a back three at Camp Nou.

Pogba wants attacking role at Man Utd

The France international says Jose Mourinho tells him he must make more effort in defence and try to retrieve balls but he says he is the type of player who wants to go forward
Paul Pogba has admitted he wants to play further forward for Manchester United, as a deeper role is "costing" him.

The Frenchman returned to Old Trafford for a world-record fee in August, but has so far shown only glimpses of his undoubted talent.
While United boss Jose Mourinho has had Pogba playing in a number of different positions, the 23-year-old is hoping to get a chance in an attacking midfield role having impressed on international duty with France.
"I try to adapt," he was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News. "I am a player who would rather go forward.

"The coach gave me instructions, I try to follow them. I have to retrieve balls and make defensive efforts.
"It cost me a bit to play differently, much like [Andrea] Pirlo. I have to play, be there to recover and play more for the team."
