Drogba demanded he be left out of Montreal squad

The Canadian club maintain that a back injury ruled the Ivorian out of the derby against Toronto FC but Goal understands he was angry at his exclusion from the starting XI
Didier Drogba demanded that he be left out of the Montreal Impact's 18-man squad for Sunday's derby game with Toronto FC after learning he would not start the match, Goal understands

The Impact have claimed that Drogba’s exclusion was due to a minor back injury but a source has told Goal that Drogba has had a falling out with coach Mauro Biello after learning that he planned to start Matteo Mancosu instead of the Ivory Coast international

Earlier in the week, transfer rumours had linked Drogba with a potential loan move to Serie A during the MLS offseason.
Tosaint Ricketts scored a late goal to deny Montreal a victory that would have clinched their place in the playoffs. Ignacio Piatti scored both of the home side's goals in a 2-2 draw, with Jozy Altidore netting Toronto's first.

Guardiola sets Man City Champions League points target ahead of Barca showdown

The Catalan says his side's draw with Celtic last time out did them no favours and that they must come out of the back-to-back clashes with points to show for their efforts

Pep Guardiola says his Manchester City side will go to Barcelona to win as he sets them a target of taking six points from their remaining four Champions League group games.
Guardiola believes City's 3-3 draw with Celtic has complicated their chances of qualifying for the knock-out stage.
City play Barca at Camp Nou on Wednesday before a return clash at the Etihad Stadium two weeks later, two matches which will provide a much clearer idea of the Blues' task ahead of their final two games.
A failure to win either of the two Barcelona games would leave Guardiola's men with an uphill battle and he says they will try to take all three points at Camp Nou - and by playing their normal game.
Asked after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Everton if a point at Camp Nou would be a good result, he replied: “I don’t know. It depends on the game. If we play like today then it is not a good result. But if Barcelona play much better than us then maybe it is a good result.
“I never think about the next game thinking a draw will be a good result. A draw is complicated. Not winning in Glasgow means we have to take points against Barcelona either over there or here and especially in Germany [away to Borussia Monchengladbach] as well.
“We have four games left and we need to win two of them, make six points, to be in the next round. And we are going to try to win the first points in the [next] game, that is sure.”
He added: "Not too many teams win there in recent years. I will talk to the players about the way we will play that game.
“We are going to play like we are. I know the way we want to play but, of course, we have to know exactly against which team we’re going to play.”
City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, meanwhile, believes Guardiola could once again field a back three at Camp Nou.

Pogba wants attacking role at Man Utd

The France international says Jose Mourinho tells him he must make more effort in defence and try to retrieve balls but he says he is the type of player who wants to go forward
Paul Pogba has admitted he wants to play further forward for Manchester United, as a deeper role is "costing" him.

The Frenchman returned to Old Trafford for a world-record fee in August, but has so far shown only glimpses of his undoubted talent.
While United boss Jose Mourinho has had Pogba playing in a number of different positions, the 23-year-old is hoping to get a chance in an attacking midfield role having impressed on international duty with France.
"I try to adapt," he was quoted as saying by the Manchester Evening News. "I am a player who would rather go forward.

"The coach gave me instructions, I try to follow them. I have to retrieve balls and make defensive efforts.
"It cost me a bit to play differently, much like [Andrea] Pirlo. I have to play, be there to recover and play more for the team."

Watch out, Ibrahimovic! Liverpool's defence looking lean and mean

The Reds have struggled for to keep opposition attacks at bay this season, but finally seem to be becoming more resilient
Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool have become one of the most exciting teams to watch in the Premier League. The Reds’ attacking play has been thrilling to watch in the 12 months since the German took over at Anfield, and as such they head into Monday’s clash with old rivals Manchester United as a genuine title contender.
But this is not the first time they have been the league's most potent attacking force in recent memory. Under Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool should really have won a first Premier League title in 2013-14 as Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho tore opponents apart on a weekly basis. What let them down was their lack of defensive nous as they shipped an unprecedented total for a second-placed side of 50 goals.
Fast forward two-and-a-half years and there is a familiar feel about the squad Klopp has put together since his arrival in October 2015. Coutinho now combines with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino to devastating effect, and the Reds are the joint-top goalscorers in the English top-flight alongside Manchester City with 18 from seven games. But at the other end of the pitch questions remain.
No side currently in the top half of the table has conceded more than the 10 goals Liverpool have, and though half of those goals came in their opening two matches of the campaign they are still to keep a clean sheet in the league ahead of the Red Devils’ visit.

Can Liverpool keep Zlatan at bay??

The Reds boss is preparing to face the Portuguese but feels he has been harshly judged in the opening weeks of the season and is expecting a tough game on Monday night
Jurgen Klopp has described suggestions that Manchester United have had a poor start to the season as “bulls***” as he prepares to face the Red Devils at Anfield on Monday.
Jose Mourinho’s side come into the game down in seventh place in the table, three points behind Liverpool, having been held by Stoke last time out.
But Klopp has defended Mourinho’s recent record at the club insisting criticism of the Portuguese is completely unjustified.
“It’s bulls***. No, but rubbish. Who says this? He has started badly at United?” he told reporters.
“They won their first [three] games. So now you are giving B grades for winning? I try to play similar football to now with my former team and when we faced Real Madrid it was unbelievably difficult to play them.
“He [Mourinho] knows how successful football works. To like or not like the way he plays, why should he care? Why should he care?
“How can I say who is on the way here and who is on the way there?  If I lose against Manchester United you will stand here and ask me: ‘So..what about your ways..?’ I am of course not interested and absolutely not part of the group that says Jose Mourinho was or has been a good manager.
“He is a competitor. Without knowing him well, I know he will want to win this game.”
“They are Man United and they have the quality and offensive players who are strong and quick and technically good. They have everything you need to play football.
“ In the end a game can change when one team goes in to the lead or something, so we don’t know exactly what they will do but I am sure they won’t come here to defend only.”

Xabi Alonso: I especially look out for Liverpool v Man Utd fixture .

As a former Liverpool star, Xabi Alonso says the Manchester United derby rivalry holds extra importance for him.
The Spanish midfielder played with the Reds between 2004 and 2009 so knows very well what it is like to come up against the Red Devils in a fiery north-west derby.
Ahead of Monday night's Anfield clash between the arch enemies, Xabi told LiverpoolFC.com that this is is always the fixture he looks out for now that he is a Liverpool supporter.
"I look out for most of the games. But this one especially because of how big it is, the build-up and what it means for both clubs to be successful after 90 minutes, to be the winners," said the Bayern Munich man.
"It's so important for both teams. It's still early days in the season but it can be a very, very important game. That's a big one in terms of tradition and a big clash.
"Liverpool against Manchester United was our big game of the season, whenever they were coming to Anfield or whenever we had to go to Old Trafford, because the tension between the two crowds was so strong you could feel it on the pitch."

Massimo Ambrosini linked with top AC Milan job .

Former AC Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini is being linked with a return.
Ambrosini is under consideration as technical director as Milan's new board consider their options.
After rejection by Paolo Maldini, Tuttosport says Ariedo Braida has also declined an approach, preferring to remain with Barcelona.
Leonardo has been considered, but again talks are proving difficult.
So, Milan are now turning to Ambrosini as a potential technical director - his first serious post since retirement.

Torino to insert buyout clause in deal for Arsenal, Liverpool target Belotti

Torino are locked in new contract talks with Andre Belotti.
With the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool circling, Toro have moved to upgrade the striker's deal.
Granata president Urbano Cairo is offering Belotti a contract to 2021 and also wants to include a buyout clause in the agreement.
Cairo is seeking to have a €50-60 million escape option in the contract.
Belotti is fast emerging as one of Italy's most exciting new talents, scoring his first goal for the national team last week.

Man Utd circle as Bale demands parity with Ronaldo Real Madrid super wages.

Manchester United are maintaining a watching brief on Gareth Bale's contract talks with Real Madrid.
The Times says Bale wants to be paid the same as Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid.
The Welshman - currently on a reported £260,000 a week - wants to join Ronaldo on earning more than £20m a year after tax.
It is believed that both players are currently undergoing negotiations.
United are being kept up-to-date on the situation as they see Bale as a priority 2017 transfer target.
